Home Office Space

While in Toronto I’ve had to figure a few things out in our temporary home to better support my family’s needs. Like adding a little girlie flare to the guest room that became my girls room once they arrived. Speaking of, once the kids descended I was forced to find and create a quite spot for myself where I could get some work done. Hence, the lovely and peaceful home office space I cobbled together. I borrowed a few pieces of furniture I found around our rented condo and purchases a couple of pretty accents from local shops. I’m pretty pleased with how the space turned out and have found it to be a perfect spot for working on the blog, writing, reading and generally getting inspired. I thought I’d share it with any of you work from home mamas out there in need of a little home office beautifying ideas. XOXO, KT

All I could find in the condo was a small desk just big enough to hold my laptop or planner. For the stuff that spills over I bought a pretty little side table from HomeSense in Toronto. Ideally I would have had a larger desk with plenty of drawers for storing all my office supplies but I didn’t want to purchase one that I would be forced to leave behind when our time here comes to an end.

I added just a few accessories, some plants and a couple of my favorite quotes to give me something pretty and inspiring to look at between thoughts and sentences. I’m really loving everything rose gold at the moment and feel the color gives just enough pop to a room without overwhelming it. Lately I’ve been craving soothing, peaceful colors and neutral spaces. I guess the busier my life gets the more I need my environment to bring a sense of calm and tranquility to my frazzled mind. Adding in live plants and flowers (and maybe one or two faux) is my new go to for easily and cheaply beautifying any space or room. I pick ones that are incredibly low maintenance and that are easy to keep alive and thriving, like orchids and succulents.

The master bedroom in the condo is actually quite large so I decided it could serve several purposes. A place to sleep, think and work. So along with the desk I also added a comfy arm chair I dragged out of the master bathroom and a foot rest I purchased from…you guessed it HomeSense. I added a faux fur throw to make the chair even cozier and a pretty lap desk from Indigo Book Store to make it a little easier to write or work from the chair.

Master bedroom

With the bedroom serving as more than just a place to crash at night and well…you know 😉 it’s important to me to make the bed and tidy up so I’m never surrounded by clutter or chaos while trying to work or get inspired. Though to be honest I’m an every day bed maker kind of gal anyway so this isn’t anything new for me. When I have an early call to set my amazing husband will take up the bed making mantle because he knows how important it is to me. Gotta love a man who will do the little things to make you happy!

Katherine your mini space is so pretty, you stuck to a gorgeous palette of colours. I too am a happy planner girl. The fact you can make them your own is the reason I’ve been using one since they were first released

What a beautiful place you created. A few things can make the difference. i love that.
By the way… Did you really say there is Schmutz on the cover of your planner?! Do you often use German words instead of the English ones?
Thanks for sharing all of your ideas.

Your video tour was exactly what I needed to boost my creativity today! I’m a blogger who uses The Happy Planner too and I recently changed over to the BIG size to better manage my blog (which has fallen victim to a busy life without enough time in the day!). I love the beauty & simplicity of your ‘sacred space’ and agree 100% that we all need one. Thank you for sharing your space and I’m so glad to have found your beautiful blog too!

I hope you will talk more about your artist in you, the art supplies, and how you made out with the supplies too. Because I am a artist myself , I love pencil drawings especially from real pictures usually takes me 10 min tops I love that size of your planner book , but I was looking to use that idea for making a regular book that I am working, thought book spine is awesome and the whole planner it self! I love your ideas on crafting and love your blogs too! I am so creative myself thank you so much!
