My Favorite Beauty Finds: Part 1
Over the last few years I’ve managed to hone in on a few things that help me look and feel my most beautiful. I’ve streamlined my skin care regime and cherry picked the best products to help me achieve that often illusive clear skin glow. I’ve carved out time to get my roots done regularly and have my lash extensions cared for (said lash extensions are kind of my new favorite beauty find by the way!) I’ve discovered the perfect apps to help me maintain a consistent, quick and relatively easy workout routine and I’ve mostly stopped buying the latest trends in favor of fits and styles I know are more flattering to my figure. It’s taken me about 20 years to figure out what I most need, what truly works and how I really want to feel and I thought I’d share my findings with you. As I started listing and linking to all my favorites I realized I needed to break this post up into parts. It was getting a little overwhelming and way too long to be easily digestible so I decided to start my beauty share with my favorite lash extension line, my 10 minute or less makeup routine and the two apps I’m using now to help rid myself of the last of my baby weight. The next post will have all the info and links to my all time favorite skin care products and after that I’ll dive into my go to jeans, tops and sweaters that help shape, lift, minimize and flatter me the most. I’ve discovered that feeling beautiful is beautiful and that there’s no shame in passing by a mirror and smiling at what you see!
Four Products That Perfect!
Waking Up Pretty
So about those lashes. The first time I tried them was about nine years ago for a movie I was doing and lord were they a pain in the ass! They took hours to put on, were itchy and uncomfortable and fell out way faster than promised forcing me into another lengthy session to re-apply. I gave up on them for several years until a girlfriend with enviable lashes convinced me to try them again. They were a little better this go around but still never lasted long enough, forcing me to refill every week and ultimately becoming way too high maintenance for my schedule. Then, when another friend started working for Borboleta Beauty I let him talk me into trying them one more time.
Borboleta Beauty was so convinced that I’d have a far better experience with their lashes expertly applied by one of their professionally trained lash experts they were willing to let me try them for free only hoping that I’d tell you all about them if I liked them. Well, like them I did!! They have become one of my all time favorite beauty treats! They look amazing, feel amazing and are way less maintenance than lashes past. It pays to not only use the best lashes out there but to have a well trained expert applying them! The first couple of weeks I had them on my kids couldn’t stop commenting on how pretty I looked, even first thing in the morning without makeup on. Josh has been incredibly vocal in his approval as well, winking at me constantly and telling me how sexy I am all day long. For some strange reason, or maybe a very obvious one, these lashes have given me just the confidence boost I was needing.
With my 39th birthday right around the corner, I’ve been feeling a little…I don’t know… misty eyed I guess over the passing of my thirties and the distant memories of my 20’s. There was this nasty little voice inside my head telling me to just give up on feeling beautiful, that beauty is for the youthful and the young. Well the younger, I’m not that old for God’s sake! Spending an hour and a half on my back with my eyes closed while Kelly, the great gal who expertly applied my lashes, did her work was probably the best spent me time I’ve had in awhile. When she was all done and I opened my newly fabulous eyes I wasn’t expecting such a monumental shift in my self confidence or my beauty perspective, but monumental shift is what I got. Having these thick, gorgeous dark lashes have given me and my look just enough extra oomph to bring me my groove back. I realize they seem like such a small, insignificant, even shallow thing to give so much credit to, but credit I will give them. I can’t totally explain it, but they make me feel beautiful and feeling beautiful has made all the difference!
Getting My Abs Back!
Lately as I scroll through my Instagram feed I’ve noticed some sponsored posts, or commercials if you will, for apps and products. A few of them I’ve clicked on to get more info and have ended up downloading. They’ve mostly been geared towards fitness and workouts, and I’m assuming that’s not some sort of sign from the universe that I need to work out but just very clever algorithms that know what I’m interested in. Anywho, I’ve ended up with some pretty great fitness apps that have really helped me not only get motivated but stay consistent with a workout routine. I’m still trying to lose the last of my very stubborn baby weight and know that each workout is one step further in the right direction. I’m already feeling sexier, stronger, healthier and more vibrant after each session and like I’ve already said, feeling beautiful is beautiful! Here are my two favorites apps right now.
Asana Rebel combines yoga with HIIT type training. I love it because I’m getting my yoga in while burning extra calories and toning up. It’s also totally doable for a gal like me who doesn’t want to hit it so hard I have nothing left for the rest of my day!
Aaptiv has tons of audio based workouts that feel like you’ve got a personal trainer at the tip of your fingers. Of course I mostly gravitate towards their yoga workouts. I love that I can choose everything from the length of the workout to it’s intensity to the music it’s set to.
Hopefully this has helped inspire a little extra beauty in your life. For even more beauty finds, info and links stay tuned for next weeks post on my favorite skincare products. XOXO, KT

Hi Katherine! Thank you for the gorgeous eyelash inspiration à la Borboleta, and the workout app ideas. Lashes ‘n Abs would make for a fun book chapter title ;-). Your post and photos may just be the nudge I need to invest in really good quality eyelash extensions. Since turning…wait for it…50, both my brows and lashes are much finer and thinner than the juicy ones god gave me for my smokin’ hot years (20’s – 40’s). Since it sounds like your Borboleta’s have given you such a lift, I want that too.
Thank you, also, for being so down to earth and genuine in your posts. Your REALness comes out in how you communicate with us. Your blog feels like I’m part of a fun sisterhood.

November 3, 2017 at 2:42 pmKatherine you are absolutely beautiful! Refreshingly so because your beauty is so natural. Makeup is my hobby and I especially like to see how working mothers manage their routines. Thank you for sharing. I’m turning 43 this month and struggle with aging as well but I know we can do it gracefully if we do it right!

November 4, 2017 at 2:15 pmHi Katherine,
November 4, 2017 at 2:36 pmfirst of all: thank you so much for your blog!! I’ve been enjoying it since the very first time you wrote and everytime you write something new, I make sure to grab myself some tea, find a quiet corner in the house and just enjoy reading everything. I have to say you do a wonderful job always coming up with great topics but this time you wrote about what I just needed 🙂 I’m a mother and a student currently, and so time to get ready is very limited for me as well. I just loved your video- what a cool idea!! And I will definelty check out these products and may be put a few on my wish list for Santa this year 🙂
And I can’t wait for part 2 of your beauty post. I live in Minnesota and my skin just gets so dry in the winter time. I feel like I’ve tried so many things by now and nothing really satisfies me. So I’m very curious about the products you use, to fight dry skin.
Thank you so much again, for all the time and love you put into your blog. I really appriciate it.
Stay warm and lots of greetings from Minnesota.
Mary
Love, Love, love your blog, vlogs and all your advice and tips. I’m a Mummy to twins girls, a wife and work part time. I literally have 5 minutes in the morning to get ready so your makeup tips are a joy to watch. I love your eyelashes! The most simplest change can bring so much joy. I recently had my eyebrows feather touched tattooed and have saved 5 minutes off my makeup routine each day. What skincare do you use?

November 6, 2017 at 8:08 pmHi Katherine – I met you today in my store in Fort Collins. Storm Fine Apparel (Storm Men’s Shop). I enjoyed talking with you and thank you for stopping in. I pray your little guy will be okay. My dogs are so very important to me and I understand how hard it is when they are sick. I also saw that you are a knitter. We have a great knitting store here! My Sister Knits on Mountain Ave. My favorite! It is in a carriage house in the owners backyard.
November 9, 2017 at 3:44 amI am so jealous of you for meeting her!
November 9, 2017 at 8:36 pmJovana – Katherine was very kind. I did not know she was in Fort Collins. I haven’t paid attention to the news. So I ridiculously ask if anyone had told her she looks just like Katherine Heigl!
