Family Friendly Smoothies

To be totally honest I’ve had a love/hate relationship with smoothies for years now. I love the idea of them, but hate that an hour after I’ve downed one I’m starving again. Then there was the summer that I thought I would easily drop a few extra pounds by using my Ninja blender to whip up a smoothie every morning for breakfast, but I wasn’t following any particular recipe for low cal options and didn’t realize that adding a cup of cashews, almonds or walnuts was jacking up the calorie count on the smoothie to well over a thousand. Yeah, I actually put weight on that summer. But when the warm weather rolls around I find myself craving their cool, silky deliciousness, and so do my girls. With a determined heart I set about searching for a few satisfying, low cal, easy recipes and low and behold, I found em! So I guess smoothies and I are officially back together…for the summer at least.

A Few Of Our Favorite Smoothie Recipes

These smoothies have just enough heft to them to keep my hunger at bay until lunch. By adding a couple tablespoons of peanut butter, rolled oats, greek yoghurt or avocado I get a more filling option that’s still low enough to fit into my daily calorie goals. If it’s a camp day for the girls and I’m just making the smoothie for me and Josh I’ll substitute unsweetened almond milk with one of Califia Farms cold brew coffees like their delicious salted caramel. It’s slightly more calories than the unsweetened almond milk, but it’s not bad and 100% worth it!

I’d been making my smoothies with apple juice for the last few weeks, all the while marveling at how great they tasted and omg why didn’t I think of using juice before? This was till I watched a Netflix food doc and they said “apple juice has more sugar than a coke”…WHAT? Needless to say I haven’t lost any weight lol. Thanks for the recipes!
