The Girls Toronto Bedroom

The Girls Toronto Bedroom

I’m renting a beautiful and perfectly located condo in the heart of Toronto while I’m working here and have had a blast bringing in a few small elements to make the space feel more like mine. My favorite room to work a little magic on was the girls room. The condo is beautiful, like I said, but very grown up and sophisticated in style. It’s three bedrooms and two and a half baths which means the girls have to share a space. I picked the larger of the two guest rooms so they’d have a little more room to wiggle and got right to work transforming it from sophisticated guest room to whimsical little girls room.

I had no intention of making any major changes to the room, so although I would have loved more kid friendly furniture  I had to make the bed and dresser already in the space work. Luckily the girls are pretty good at sharing and get along like two peas in a pod so sleeping in a queen kinda works out for them.

First I purchased a sweet ruffled pink duvet and sham set from HomeSense in Toronto. Next I found some fun and playful throw pillows from Sun and Stars and Pehr Designs to add that touch of whimsy I think every child’s room needs. I wanted the girls to feel nothing but excited and welcomed to their new home away from home so I dressed the bed up with a few small but fun gifts to make their arrival to Toronto a little bit sweeter.

I think you know by now how much I love hand crafted goods and I was over the moon to stumble upon some really special kid finds right around the corner from our condo. These unique stuffed animals from Cate and Levi were a great and creative buy seeing as you and your child can sew them together yourselves. I knew they were right up my crafty kids alley. Another crafty find was the tea towel decorating kit from Yellow Owl Workshop. The girls dove right into that project and made some adorable tea towels to take on our next picnic.

I found these adorable hand sewn and jolly creatures and am completely smitten with the fanciful, imaginative world the Hazel Village artists have created. Check out their blog for playful DIY projects you can do with your kiddos to add to their Hazel Village experience!

I also found some bright, beautiful and fun inspirational art from Meera Lee Patel and mason jar night lights by Kerri Lee.

Last but not least I bought each girl a swirly twirly party dress from Jacadi to help them feel like the princesses they are.

All in all I think the room turned out perfectly and the girls were pretty darn pleased with their special Toronto space. My favorite part of the whole experience was opening the door to reveal their new room and listening to their squeals of delight! I was able to bring them joy, giggles and a room that felt uniquely theirs without breaking the bank or even much of a sweat. Now that’s what I call a good day!

    Dearest Katherine,
It is a good morning for me as I woke up to find your new post notification in my mailbox! How I love waking up to those!
Yes, you did it! Without breaking the bank or sweat, ha, you turned the place upside down by unique finds that made the girls feel special and more like home! Love those dresses ( what a Monroe moment:)) and so curious about that one particular book “ Be your self everyone else is taken” ! I have to find that book now! Really love those tiny toys and the Owl sewing kit – laudable that you get them started early on handy work! Joshua is quite delighted with his new find as well although I can’t tell what kind of a toy plush is it?:)
Thank you for sharing and for throwing so many. Ew ideas in my book!
Hope you are having a beautiful and cozy morning in Toronto! Coffee cheers, love
    Truly yours

Hi Katie! Thank you for the email today! I always look forward to them! Love the fact you are teaching your children to be crafty, too many lovely handmade items are going by the wayside from years gone by. This world needs more of continuing on with knitting, sewing ect. Look for some yarn shops while in Toronto, I’m sure you will find some!! Have a great day!! Always, Marcia

    Hi Katie!
The girls room is beautiful! Congrats! 🙂

I have some fun & simple decor ideas to share with you, if that’s ok.
    1) Add a (fabric) headboard slipcover
    2) Add twinkle lights (fairy lights) somewhere in the room
    3) Add pale pink tulle curtains
    4) Add a small pom pom rug
    5) Replace the picture above the bed for a DIY dream catcher
    6) Add a glass vase with delicate flowers on the nightstand
    7) Add a (girly) wooden chest for storage
    8) Turn the side table into a hair & makeup station – add a mirror & a chair

I hope you like my ideas, Katie!!
Go to Pinterest to see what I’m talking about. I don’t know how to post pics here.
Much love from Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina.
