Cocktails and dinner by night! For me the key to a flawless transition from day to night are hair and makeup products that not only protect against the sun but stay put, are easy to touch up and are just enough to achieve a put together but natural summer look!

A leave in conditioner and heat protectant cream, a tinted sunscreen, a touch of cream blush on cheeks and lids, a lip plumping gloss and a swipe of mascara are my summer go tos.

David Babaii has been styling my tresses for magazine covers and red carpet events for about 8 years now. We first worked together on a W magazine cover I did celebrating mixed families that featured Miss Naleigh Moon. It’s one of my favorite covers for obvious reasons and one of my best hair looks! For David and I it was love at first blow out and we’ve been together ever since! Here are David’s tips and tricks for perfect, healthy and sexy summer hair.

David Babaii's Summer Hair Secrets

Since the summer often causes stress on your hair because of over-exposure to the sun, heat, wind plus chlorinated pools or salty ocean waters, it is critical to maintain several key beauty tips. Maintaining your tresses is easy by following some of my simple trade secrets.

Wash your hair daily to remove all pollutants, oils, and perspiration plus all styling products from your hair. Alternate by using a hydrating shampoo to keep hair naturally hydrated and renewed from summer’s heat then once a week use a chelating shampoo to remove oils, chlorine, salts or styling products. Don’t forget to condition and use a deep conditioner once a week.

When you are at the beach or sun bathing, comb a good leave in oil through your hair and let the heat from the sun help penetrate the natural ingredients. This will also protect the hair from drying out.

A great summer style is a beach pony using your favorite oil to create that perfectly sleek look. Also, consider a messy pony sprayed with beach spray. After fun in the sun, undo and viola! You will have instant texture.

After swimming, it is always important to wash and condition your hair to remove any chlorine or salt water.

Try using a dry shampoo on clean hair to keep it fresher longer plus, it also serves as a great volumizer and texturizing product.

Visit your stylist at least every 4-6 weeks for a trim to keep your hair in perfect shape and remove any split ends. Healthy hair is just as important as the healthy glow you obtain from the sun.

I love hair to look natural. To achieve that summer beachy look use a beach spray on wet or dry hair. Simply scrunch in or twirl strands to create volume, texture and waves.

Try to allow your hair to air dry to prevent less heat styling. This will protect the hair and help to maintain more moisture. If you opt to use a dryer or flat iron, always use a good quality one and also use a thermal protectant.

Debra Ferullo and I haven’t been working together quite as long but it’s just as passionate a relationship! She recently did me for the premiere of Unforgettable and I loved everything about the old Hollywood glam look she created. She’s a badass with a makeup brush and a wonderful friend to boot! Here are Debra’s tips and tricks for easy, minimal, glowing summer makeup.

Debra Ferullo's Makeup Tips

The most important product I cannot live without this summer is Colorescience Broad Spectrum SPF50. It’s the best thing ever because it gives you the protection you need against the sun but it also looks good over your make up. If I were going to be out in the sun all day or working in it I would probably use something with zinc in it, but for every day use like driving in your car, picking your kids up from school, going to the grocery store or what ever it may be that has you popping in and out of your car, your home or your office this sunblock powder is the best thing you can do for your skin!

No matter what makeup look you’re trying to achieve the most important thing is how you prep your skin before hand which is why I adore Clarins Blue Orchid. I love the way it makes the skin glow!

My must have products to give you that sun kissed look without actually having to go in the sun is LORAC TANtalizer Baked Bronzer in Matte Tan and also their TANtalizer for Face/Body Bronzing Powder. These are my favorites for creating a bit of contouring while also giving the face that natural healthy glow!!

If you’re headed to the beach or in Katie’s case, working on the ranch and you don’t want to go without makeup here’s a few tips on how to create a natural sun kissed look!

I’d definitely suggest starting with a strong sunblock. I prefer to stay away from sunblocks with Oxybenzone, Benzophenone-3, Retinyl Palmitate and Amino Benzoic Acid so I use Badger Sunscreen. I mix it with the foundation… I would choose a shade darker than you would normally wear because the zinc can lighten the color of the foundation. By mixing it together you can get the coverage you need and the sun protection that ya gotta have!!! Next I’d set the look with the LORAC TANtalizer Baked Bronzer Matte. Using a large blush brush I would dust it over the entire face. Then using the LORAC TANtalizer Baked Bronzer Face/body I’d apply that to the cheekbones down the center of the nose, the bow of the lips. I’d fill the eyebrows in ever so lightly using Anastasia Brow Kit. Next I’d apply two coats of YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Waterproof No. 1 Charcoal Black Noir Fussain to both top and bottom lashes. Finally I’d apply Flower Beauty’s Flower Shine on Lip Gloss Wand, Nude Nectar. Now this is where the Colorescience comes in especially handy because after being in the sun for an hour or two you can go over your makeup with the Colorescience powder and it won’t ruin your makeup!!!! So your makeup stays on and most importantly your face stays protected from the harmful and age causing rays!!!

Hey! I loved this blog there are great tips for summer hair and makeup! But with me my hair is naturally very oily so I use Clarifying shampoo I am not much of hair products though either and I do hate getting hair cuts so I usually get a trim once a year because I love having longer hair as you can see on my comment to your blog I am a very simple person when it comes to my hair! Thank you very much for the tips on hair maybe in the future though I love your blogs!

    Good Morning!
I was just checking out the new posts. I found 2 or 3 things to pick from that you posted in the summer projects. I also found the sunscreen by Badger good for women, I have a friend that has a site and blog and her husband had a mishap with can of aerosol sunscreen that started spraying in his backpack when he was bicycling it caused credit card strips to disappear, ate up the backpack inside, and destroyed a lot of other stuff.

Wanted her to see your blog so I shared it. She has just overcome a battle with cancer and had a lot of support from friends and family.
Love your page and enjoy your articles, and especially love the family photos and excursions.
    Have a wonderful day!
