TV Trailer Makeover

Katherine Heigl In Her Trailer For TV Show Suits
Ever since I became an actor my home away from home has been my on set trailer. When I was a kid I started out in a honey wagon, which is a block of six or so closet sized rooms attached to one another on wheels. Once I’d earned my stripes I was upgraded to a triple banger (I realize how that sounds but I didn’t coin the phrase) which is three slightly larger rooms attached to one another on wheels. After the triple banger came the double banger. Yup, you guessed it, two even bigger rooms attached to one another on wheels. I have fond memories of my trailer neighbors, the other actors in the adjoining room, and being subject to their blaring heavy metal music (Brendan Fehr on Roswell listened exclusively to Metallica at ear splitting decibels) or their blaring afternoon television shows (Justin Chambers on Grey’s Anatomy loved him some Judge Judy.) I know you wouldn’t think it but I actually miss those shared trailer days and my co-star neighbors! I really love those guys! Anyway, these days, after almost 30 years in the business of being an actor I have upgraded to a single trailer all my own. Making my at work space feel homey, comfortable and peaceful is usually my first priority when I start a new job. Continue Reading

Transitions

Katherine Heigl
Dear Friends,

Right now, in my life, it is a time of transition. I have spent the last year and a half blissfully, and yes, sometimes painfully, embracing my domesticity and motherhood. However the time has come to go back to work which means my life, my time and my purpose will shift and compromises will have to be made. I will not always be there to kiss my girls goodnight or put the baby down. I will miss end of year school plays, choir concerts and even a birthday. I will not be there the day Joshua Jr. gains solid footing and toddles across the room for the first time. It goes without saying that the missing is hard. On me and my kids. I will not tell you it’s always worth it, it’s not, but it is the choice I made the day I welcomed my first baby into my heart. I chose to be a mother and I chose to continue to work. Truthfully, working and earning isn’t really an option. The choice is in how I decide to do that and the reality is, I’ve been acting since I was eleven years old. I have put in my 10,000 hours and it’s what I know and do best. Part of me would love to retire from the screen and be a mommy blogger who works from home. Though I imagine that is not without it’s trials and tribulations! Another part of me would be devastated to give up performing and storytelling. The old adage “Women can have it all” is a half truth that kind of pisses me off really. You may, as a woman, be able to have a successful career and a family but you are always, always compromising one for the other. I guess you can call it having it all, you just can’t have it all at once.Continue Reading

My Favorite Baby Finds: Part 1

Joshua Jr. celebrating his first birthday with cake
I love baby stuff…I mean I really, really love it. When Josh and I were expecting Naleigh I spent months researching everything from the best diaper wipes to the safest car seats and I was no different with Adalaide or Joshua Jr. There’s just something about spending hours online perusing everything baby that amps up the excitement for and soothes some of the anxieties about your little ones arrival. At least it does for me! For those of you who would rather not spend the wee hours of the night online comparing baby wipes and car seats I’ve decided to share my favorite must haves with you. Hopefully my extensive list will save you time you may not have and worry you can not spare. Enjoy!Continue Reading
