Hideaway Place Space

The girls discovered a perfect hideaway spot in our rental in Toronto where they can sit and read, draw or journal all while feeling hidden away in their own special girl cave. I figured as long as they were truly enjoying it and using it often I’d spruce it up for them and make it a bit cozier and a little prettier. It was a super simple and inexpensive project that made me a hero for a day. If you have a little nook type space that goes virtually unused in your own home I encourage you to turn it into a hideaway for your little ones and be their hero…if only for an afternoon!

I purchased everything for the hideaway from HomeSense in Toronto but if you don’t live in Canada I believe HomeGoods is the States equivalent. Sadly neither site allows you to make purchases online so if you’re not to close to a store or just don’t feel like making a trip out then Wayfair is a great option. Since I want to be able to share with you the purchases I made or something like them I’ll include a link to similar products I’ve found on Wayfair.

I chose the coziest pillows and throw blanket I could find and added foam tiles the girls could puzzle together themselves in a design of their choice. After I did the video I went back to HomeSense and bought a faux sheepskin rug to add even more cushiness to the space. Oh and another throw blanket since there seemed to be some contention over who got to use it when. Better to just make sure each girl had their own and avoid silly arguments that make my brain melt!

Morning Katie! Great idea to use that space, I’m betting the kids love it and think it’s great knowing it’s there if they just “want to get away” also! I was raised in a big farmhouse and although we didn’t have a space under the stairs, we had a huge place at the top of the stairs! It was my big play area for dolls, reading ect. An area like that is almost a MUST in childhood! A place where the creative genes can start to flow! Glad you are making a nice “space” for all in Toronto! But also, there’s no place like home! Have a great week Katie! Always, Marcia

This is such a great idea for turning wasted space into a snug and very special hideaway for your girls. The girls look so happy to have this hidden area to themselves to dream and let their imagination run wild. Great job, Mom!

Love this!!! Our space under the stairs looks like a tornado of toys went thru b/c it’s my 6 years old favorite spot to play. Tomorrow is the first day of school and I’m going to transform it into a cozy well organized spot – which never occurred to me!!! Thank you!!
