July 4th 2017
I wasn’t able to get this post together in time to help inspire party plans for those of you celebrating the 4th of July this year, but decided it’s never too late to share the pictures, ideas and recipes of a successful celebration!
Last year I hosted a 4th of July pool day for a small group of family and friends. I had my best girlfriend Chey up visiting and turned the holiday weekend into a food and activity filled extravaganza. As much fun as I had creating that wonderful weekend, I decided that this year I wanted to spend less time on my feet in the kitchen and more time on my butt in a chair by the pool! My favorite meal from last years festivities was the Clambake I served because it was not only delicious but incredibly easy to prepare. This year I decided to make the southern version of a clambake, the beloved low country boil for a larger crowd. I discovered that it’s just as easy to make and even better suited for more people. So I have designated it our new 4th of July tradition. The appetizers I chose to serve required nothing more than whipping up some dips and purchasing prepared veggie trays and chips. I was also smart enough to ask friends to help by bringing something to contribute to the meal like a side dish, sodas, popsicles or fruit. The day turned out absolutely perfect not only because the sun was shining brightly, the company was fantastic, and the food delicious but because I had plenty of time to sit on my butt and just enjoy it all!

My mother made this for the party and she just substituted the rainbow sprinkles with red, white and blue ones to give the cake a patriotic vibe.

Hi Katherine, my name is Tamara I am an Australian Author. I just wanted to jot you a note to let you know how much I enjoy your blogs. It is wonderful seeing both the different culture and environment in which you live compared to Australia. It is such a contrast to me considering I live on the mid North Coast of Australia. I love getting your email when a new blog has hit the internet. Thanks for the enjoyment and keep them coming!!
