Toronto Adventures: Planta Restaurant

Family food time at Planta Restaurant

Eating has been one of my favorite activities here in Toronto. We have had some truly delectable meals out and I’m loving the easy access to amazing food living in the city affords us. Where we live in Utah there’s no Postmates, Doordash or Uber Eats. We can’t even get a pizza delivered to the house so I’m forced to cook more nights than not. Usually I love the process and creativity of cooking but I have to admit that I’m really enjoying the little respite living in Toronto has brought me from grocery lists, meal plans and clean up!

One of my favorite spots in Toronto is Planta, a vibey vegan restaurant in Yorkville that serves up the best plant based food I’ve ever had. To be clear I am not a vegan, but I love exploring all kinds of cuisines. I was not even a little disappointed by Planta’s menu and I’m especially fond of their creative cocktails that I’ve dubbed health elixirs due to their inclusion of medicinal ingredients like activated charcoal. I realize for some that vegan cuisine can sound a little scary but I’m telling you, if you like fresh farmer’s market ingredients delivered in unique and delicious ways you will love Planta as much as I do!

My kids were definitely skeptical at first about an all vegetable meal but after their first bite Planta had them convinced!

The best part of the meal is how good you feel afterwards for not only taking one day to support our earth by going vegan, but by supporting the health and digestion of your body by eliminating all the junk that can often slow you down. Oh and then there’s the sweet medicinal effects of imbibing a couple of their special health elixirs…bourbon has healing qualities too people!

Thanks for including plant based goodness! Looks beautiful and delicious. I appreciate you mentioning your consideration of the earth in food choices. I don’t think many people think about that. Health is wealth.

Hi Katie!! I’m on a healthy eating regime also! After having a serious blood disease and surviving for the last nine years from having a stem cell transplant, I found myself gaining some weight! Boy is it hard to get it off! But I’m gonna try! I go to the Farmers Market weekly and just love the variety of fruits and veggies available! Like you, I don’t mind cooking, but gladly love a break! Glad to see your kids even liked it, that pizza looks amazing! Was that cauliflower crust? Enjoy your reprieve because Im sure soon it will be time to go home! I’m sure you will be glad to get back there too!
    Always, Marcia

If you like fresh farmer’s market ingredients in a restaurant’s menu, may I suggest Farmr in the St. Lawrence Market area. Their salad greens are made from the freshest greens that are delivered with their roots still attached! It’s a very chill, family-friendly, casual place and their patio is pretty cool too!

Unfortunately I saw your post with delay, looking at the photos I immediately noticed the peculiarity of the food and its lightness …
I have been a vegan husband for eight years, that is, since before we were married, at the beginning it was very hard to get used to it, in time everything is possible …
He says that he would never come back, that he feels reborn … I do not like the choices too drastic, so I follow a healthy diet, often vegan to share with him some foods (only those that I like ;-)) or vegetarian, on the other hand I have always eaten so … My weak point is the desserts 🙂 Of course with contaminations of meat and eggs (I love omelettes … Try the one with the advanced pasta or that you cooked more on purpose or still with zucchini or just with potatoes … a pleasure …)

Here there are not many vegan restaurants, so I have to always cook !!! But I’m glad you and your family are enjoying this period in Toronto … You’re fantastic … A joy for the eyes and the spirit.

A big hug from Italy …

I love Toronto and you also. I live about an hour and a half outside of the city although, sometimes, the drive can take over two hours depending on traffic to get downtown. My sister-in-law lives fairly close to downtown so we are always trying something new. Definitely going to check this restaurant out next time we’re in town.

Have loved you since Roswell and really enjoy everything else you appear in especially Suits. Had more or less given up on the show but as soon as I found out that you were joining the cast, I got quite excited. Never miss an episode!

Just discovered your blog and I love it!

    Peace, love and happiness.
