Katherine Heigl - Halloween vampire costume
This vampire is eating for two...Mwaa Haaa Haaa Haaaaaaa!

This Halloween I had to forgo hand made costumes and go the route of the busy working mom and buy them instead. Whether you’re a working mom or not, sometimes life gets a bit overwhelming and in order to stay balanced you gotta prioritize. Though I had every intention of making costumes and had even bought the material and patterns, I realized slaving away on my sewing machine behind closed doors was not how I wanted to spend my down time this October. So, I bagged the DIY part and hit up Etsy for some fantastic finds my little ladies would love.

Naleigh informed me back in July that she wanted to be a scary vampire this year. Adalaide vacillated between a cat, a spider and a bat. I ended up making the decision for her when I found a fantastic spider queen costume on Etsy. I then found a gorgeous dress for Naleigh that was reminiscent of another time and era and totally perfect for the 1800’s vampire I planned to turn her into. The price of the dress was a bit high but it was so perfect I decided to go for it anyway. I told Naleigh she’d be wearing it for the next three Halloween’s to make up for the cost! Once I had the dresses all that was left to purchase where vampire teeth and a cape for Naleigh and some make up for both girls. I hit up Cinema Secrets in Burbank California and was blown away by the sheer volume of Halloween costumes, props and makeup the place stocked. It was so amazing that I couldn’t help but get into the spirit of things and ended up with a costume for myself. Even Josh left with a costume in hand. I didn’t have a ton of options due to my ever expanding belly but I knew I wouldn’t have any issues fitting into a cape, so I decided to be the mama vampire to Naleigh’s child vampire and Adalaide’s spider princess and that’s how our wicked family theme was born! Unfortunately Josh did not get the memo and chose to be a Disney character. Though “The Beast” really didn’t fit in with our wicked creature vibe he was a pretty big hit among all the trick or treaters out that night, especially when he’d break into the classic Disney song “Beauty and the Beast”. All in all the night was a huge success and the girls made out like bandits in the candy department. Whether I have time or not to make them, I think I’ll continue the family costume theme for as long as I can get away with it. Maybe next year I’ll even convince Josh to get on board!

When I was little all my friends were princesses and I was ALWAYS a wicked witch, with jars full of slime and spiders on my dress!
You seem like an awesome mum 🙂 I love the spider on Adalaide’ s head and that shot of Naleigh with her eyes closed is beautiful.
