Mother’s Day 2017

Just like last year I wanted to do something crafty and meaningful for Mother’s Day and managed to find some fantastic ideas on Pinterest (of course) that I figured would be easy, fun, useful AND meaningful! Perfect! Well…you’ve all heard the Pinterest fail stories right? This craft story has a happy ending, but a pretty rocky beginning! Continue Reading

Enter Spring!

Katherine Heigl - Front Entrance To Home
It has been a long cold, snowy winter in Utah this year. It was glorious, all that snow, during the holidays. A magical winter wonderland throughout January, and a skiers dream come true throughout March. Now that we’ve officially made it to May it’s become a bit of a drag! Yes we are still getting snow and when it’s not snow it’s rain and when it’s not rain it’s mud. I can not begin to tell you how excited I am for the weather to finally lighten up and bring with it the warm grass scented breezes of spring. In anticipation of those sunny days, that are surely on their way, I decided to take the Christmas wreath off my front door ( yeah I realize how late it is), pack up the plaid lap blanket and wintery throw pillows from the front porch chair; and do a bit of spring decorating. Maybe if I officially say adieu to winter the weather will follow suit! Continue Reading

Bringing in Beauty

I’m a proponent of bringing a bit of beauty into your space and have used bouquets of fresh flowers as a way of doing this for years now. I usually order just two bouquets for my house. There’s just something about flowers that brings a room to life with color, beauty and a certain kind of serenity I’ve only ever found in nature. Continue Reading

All Hallows’ Eve!

Why do these two garden fairies look like they're up to no good?

Not because it was scary, but because it was absurd and totally humiliating to wear! It was a large brown bird costume she sewed herself from a pattern that she still insists was meant to be Tweety Bird. My sister, who was forced to wear it first, and I have repeatedly told her it was in fact the chicken hawk. Ah Halloween, such fond memories. In keeping with tradition I too have begun making my children’s Halloween costumes, though I try not pick patterns that will humiliate them for years to come. I may have to throw a chicken hawk into the mix just once though. According to my mother it’s character building.Continue Reading

A Little Space to Call My Own

About a month before I found out I was pregnant I decided to turn the nursery into my craft room. I mean no one was using it right? Adalaide had moved out a year earlier and Josh and I weren’t planning to expand our family for at least another 6 months to a year so I figured why let the space just sit there empty and unused. Thankfully I did have the foresight not to make any big permanent changes so when baby boy Kelley arrives I can pretty easily convert the space back into a nursery. All though I love it so much as my craft room I’m not sure I’ll be able to give it up! Our boy may have to share his room with my sewing machine!
