Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String

I love pretty packages, and I especially love receiving them! For two years I went all out in the Christmas wrapping department going so far as to make every gift under the tree coordinate, much to Josh’s annoyance. I bought elaborate gift wrap online, headed to Michael’s for bags full of ribbon, and even adorned some of them with faux flowers and birds. Then I started receiving my orders from Purl Soho in simply wrapped brown paper packages. I fell deeply, deeply in love with the simplicity of those packages and then when I finally was ready to open them ( I needed a few days to just admire my stack of treasures) I peeled back the paper to reveal a second layer of wrapping that was hot pink tissue paper held together with a perfectly coordinated label. The whole  unwrapping experience filled me with such joy and delight that I quickly abandoned my fancy shmancy wrapping techniques and adopted Purl Soho’s simple is classy philosophy.

Purls simple brown paper packages.
A hot pink surprise underneath that brown paper!

Now that I had all my baby gifts finished for my new nephew I was ready to package everything up with just as much care and attention to detail as I had put into the making of the gift. I headed to Michaels once again to pick up tissue paper, string, and craft paper. Before I began wrapping though, I had to create the perfect labels and gift tags so I went to Avery  and started designing my little heart out.

Josh came up with Heavenly Days Handmade. It's got a nice ring to it, right?
Electric blue surprise!
I really embraced the whole blue for boy theme!

I can not tell you how much I love the look of all these packages stacked up together, there’s just something about it that soothes my aesthetic soul!

If only I could guarantee they would look this perfect when they arrive.
I wish I could be there to see them opened.

I found a white whicker basket stored in one of my closets and knew it would be perfect for piling all the gifts in. Once everything is unwrapped and put away the basket can be used for toys, bath products or diapering supplies.

Baskets are always pretty and practical in a nursery.

So now the gift is complete and ready to ship…I kinda need someone else I know to have a baby so I can keep crafting all this adorable stuff. I’m on a roll here, so yeah, ladies, get on that!

I also LOVE beautiful packages. I love to make the my kids Christmas gifts as beautiful on the outside as on the inside! My favorite thing is to attach something that reflects what the gift is on the inside! For example, my daughter loves owls. I bought her a book about owls. I wrapped it in wrapping paper that almost looked like tree bark and then bought an owl Christmas ornament to attach on the outside. So fun to get creative with wrapping.

I’m coming late to the party – just started reading your blog so excuse my tardy comment. Why oh why have I not thought of this before?? I too spend a small fortune on wrapping paper and tags and ribbon, and bows…oh my! Such a great idea. I’m so going to Michaels to buy brown paper and fabric ribbon. Thank you!
